Triumph Motorcycles has finally launched the new 350cc versions of its popular 400 motorcycles in India. The update is closely linked to the revised GST structure that favors motorcycles below 350cc with a lower tax rate of 18 percent. The company has downsized its entire entry-level portfolio including the Speed 400, Speed T4, Thruxton 400, Scrambler 400 and Scrambler 400 XC. Interestingly, despite the reduction in engine displacement, Triumph has retained the ‘400’ badge across the lineup rather than renaming the motorcycles. The revised models are now powered by a 349cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This has been achieved by reducing the stroke from 64mm to 56.1mm, while the bore remains unchanged at 89mm.
Triumph 400cc Motorcycles: New Price
With the latest engine, the motorcycles are now available with savings of up to Rs 21,500 on-road depending on the model. The updated ex-showroom prices of Speed T4 are Rs 1,95,000, Speed 400 Rs 2,31,890, Scrambler 400 Rs 2,59,241, Thruxton 400 Rs 2,65,538, and Xcrambler Rs 540,530.
While the bikes carry the same design, hardware and overall ride character, the smaller engine results in significant changes in performance figures. The Speed T4 now produces 29.0 PS at 7,500 rpm and 31.0 Nm at 5,500 rpm, compared to 31.0 PS and 36.0 Nm earlier. The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 now deliver 37.0 PS at 8,500 rpm and 32.0 Nm at 7,000 rpm, down from 40.0 PS and 37.5 Nm. Meanwhile, the Thruxton 400 and Scrambler 400 XC produce 40.0 PS at 8,750 rpm and 32.0 Nm at 8,750 rpm compared to the earlier 42.0 PS and 37.5 Nm.Performance figures have also seen minor changes. For example, the Speed 400 now accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, compared to 7.4 seconds before, while its top speed drops to a modest 147 km/h from 148.7 km/h. Similar trends can be seen across the range, with a slight increase in acceleration times and a slight decrease in top speed.
