Hyundai Motor India has recently launched the new Hyundai Exter facelift micro SUV in the Indian market. It is the first facelift for the micro SUV since its launch in 2023, bringing cosmetic updates, new features, improved safety and other improvements. Exter competes directly with Tata Punch, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Taisor. The update retains the existing package but brings minor styling changes, additional features and a revised variant line-up. Price differenceIn terms of pricing, the updated Exter sees a slight increase over the outgoing model. It is now priced between Rs 5.80 lakh and Rs 9.40 lakh (ex-showroom), from the earlier range of Rs 5.64 lakh to Rs 9.38 lakh. Along with the update, Hyundai has introduced a revised variant name structure from HX2 to HX10, aligning it with new models such as the latest Venue and Verna facelift. Despite minor price revisions, Exter continues to offer a balanced mix of features and powertrain options in its segment. Design changesThe updated Hyundai Exter retains its current look, with no structural changes, but gets a styling revision on the exterior. Updates include a redesigned grille, a new front bumper with rectangular inserts and a silver U-shaped element, and the repositioning of the ‘EXTER’ badge to the trim between the headlamps. The H-shaped DRLs and projector halogen headlamps remain unchanged. Other changes include thicker body cladding with faux screw detailing, a new design for the 15-inch alloy wheels and a revised C-pillar garnish. At the rear, the SUV gets a wing-type spoiler with trim updates connecting the tail lamps and lower bumper.
Hyundai has also added two new exterior colors – Golden Bronze and Titanium Black Matte – along with existing options like Starry Night, Titan Grey, Titanium Black, Atlas White and Ranger Khaki, along with its dual-tone version. Overall, the update focuses on minor design changes rather than a complete redesign.Internal changes The updated Hyundai Exter retains its cabin layout but introduces changes in materials and features. Updates include dual-tone navy blue and gray interior, carbon pattern dashboard finish, flat bottom steering wheel, metal pedals and seat upholstery. New additions include Type-C USB ports for the driver armrest and rear passengers. The SUV continues with an 8-inch display for the instrument cluster and touchscreen, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain wired, with wireless support via an adapter. Features like cruise control, automatic climate control, wireless charging and single-pane sunroof remain unchanged, while dash cam and wireless connectivity are offered on select variants.
Safety equipment remains unchanged, with six airbags, ESC, Hill Start Assist and central locking as standard. Top variants include rear parking camera, automatic headlamps and other driver aids. Overall, the update focuses on additional features and material changes without changing the cabin layout.Power train The updated Hyundai Exter continues with the same powertrain options as before, indicating no mechanical changes with the facelift. It is powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83hp and 114Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. Hyundai also offers a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG option, where the tanks are placed under the boot floor to improve luggage space. In CNG mode, the engine delivers 69hp and 95Nm and is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. A notable addition to the CNG variant is the inclusion of a spare wheel, which is now mounted under the vehicle.
