A recent viral Instagram reel has reignited the debate about electric mobility and its real-world impact, showing an electric bus being charged by a diesel generator. The video shows the bus connected via a special transformer setup, with power ranging from 20,000 watts to 400 kilowatts.The clip is going viral because it seems controversial. Electric vehicles are widely promoted as a zero-emission solution, especially in public transport. However, when the power source itself comes from diesel, the environmental benefit becomes questionable. As in this case, the bus produces no tailpipe emissions, but the generator that powers it continues to burn fossil fuels, moving the emissions rather than eliminating them.
The incident also highlights a deeper issue: the gap in charging infrastructure. In many regions, especially where large-scale EV adoption is still developing, stable and high-capacity grid connections are not always available.Electric mobility can only be truly “green” if the entire energy chain is clean.
