The Tata Sierra SUV has scored a full five stars in the Bharat NCAP crash test. The SUV scored 31.14 out of 32 for adult protection and 44.73 out of 49 for child protection. The tests were conducted on the Accomplished+ and Adventure+ diesel variants, resulting in a safety rating applicable to all versions of the SUV. The new Sierra is offered in seven variants, namely – Smart Plus, Pure, Pure Plus, Adventure, Adventure Plus, Accomplished and Accomplished Plus.
The Tata Sierra scored 31.14 out of 32 for adult protection in the BNCAP crash test, including 15.14 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. In this test, protection for the driver’s head, neck, back, thighs and legs was rated as ‘good’, while the chest and tibia were rated as ‘adequate’. For the co-driver, all key areas received a ‘good’ rating except for the right tibia, which was marked ‘fair’. In side impact tests, including dynamic crash barrier and pole impact assessments, head, chest, abdomen and pelvis protection for both occupants was rated as ‘good’.For child safety, the Sierra earned a perfect score of 44.73 out of 49, 23.73 out of 24 in the dynamic test, and a perfect 12 out of 12 for child restraint system installation. Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were tested in the rear seats. The smaller dummy scored 7.73 out of 8 on the frontal test, while the larger dummy scored 8 out of 8. Both recorded a full score of 4 out of 4 in the side effects test. The SUV scored 9 out of 13 in the vehicle evaluation category, resulting in a score of 44.73 out of 49 for child protection.
In terms of safety, the Tata Sierra gets six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, an electronic parking brake and all-wheel disc brakes as standard, along with hill hold assist. The SUV also offers a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, ABS with EBD and Level 2+ ADAS suite with 22 features. The other two engines are the newly developed 1.5-litre NA petrol with 106 hp of power and 145 nm of torque and the 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine with 160 hp of power and 260 nm of torque.
