New Delhi: Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Kshagra once again showcased his talent on the big stage by scoring a half-century for India A in the tri-nation A series match against Afghanistan A.Coming into a tough situation with India struggling at 129/3, Kshagra played a solid innings under pressure. The right-hander showed caution with timely aggression and scored a valuable 58 off 67 balls before being dismissed by Faridoon Dawoodzai. The knock was particularly significant as it was their first in an India A series. Kshagra formed a vital partnership with captain Tilak Verma and helped stabilize the innings after the loss of early wickets and helped the team challenge for 319/8 in 50 overs at Dambulla.
Who is Kumar Kshagra? ?
Kshagra has been regarded as one of India’s most talented wicket-keeper batsmen since his teenage years. The Jharkhand cricketer rose to prominence in 2022 when he broke a long-standing world record held by Pakistan great Javed Miandad.During his first Ranji Trophy season, Kshagra scored 266 off just 269 balls against Nagaland in the pre-quarterfinal match. At the age of 17 years and 144 days, Kshagra became the youngest batsman in the history of first-class cricket to score more than 250 runs in an innings. With this, he overtook Miandad’s 46-year-old record that had been held since 1975.This innings heralded his arrival on the domestic scene and highlighted his ability to play long innings despite being known for his aggressive stroke play.His rise continued through the age group ranks. Kshagra’s first major success came in the 2016 Vinno Monkid Trophy. Three years later, he emerged as the tournament’s highest run-scorer in the 2019 edition with 535 runs in seven matches. The performance earned him a place in India’s squad for the U-19 World Cup.Kshagra also impressed with his explosive performances in the Deodhar Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. His performance caught the attention of IPL franchises and he got a lucrative Rs 7.2 crore contract with Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2024 season.In the 2025 IPL auction, he was acquired by Gujarat Titans, who retained him for the 2026 season.
