Sonakshi Sinha System may have faced “reverse nepotism” in her latest film, but the actress says she never experienced anything like it in her real life despite being the daughter of a veteran actor. In the film, his father challenges him to win 10 cases as a prosecutor before becoming a partner in his law firm.At one point, his character asks, “What is this reverse nepotism?”However, speaking to SCREEN, Sonakshi said that her real-life equation with her father has been much more encouraging and supportive.
‘He always had my back’
Talking about the freedom she received growing up, Sonakshi Sinha said that her father always allowed her to make her own choices.“My father has always given me the freedom to choose my own path, ever since I was studying fashion design. That was the path I chose for myself. Life chose a different path for me. That’s another story,” she said.The actor added that his father’s constant support has been one of his greatest strengths.“He’s always been the quiet one. No matter what happens, he’ll have my back. To have that kind of strength and support from your father means a lot to a girl today.”
‘Go do your thing’
Unlike the strict father figure portrayed in System, Sonakshi says that Shatrughan Sinha has never been too strict with his career decisions.Sharing the advice he gave her after entering films, “Go do your thing, and I know you’ll do well.”Sonakshi admitted that those words gave her “wings” and the confidence to move forward in her career independently.She also described her father as much softer than his public image suggests.“My dad is very soft. He looks tough and does that ‘khamosh, vamosh and all’ thing, but he’s very soft,” she laughed.
“He tells me the honest truth”
At the same time, the actor said that his father has never objected to being honest whenever needed.“He tells me where he’s at. Everyone knows he’s very honest and transparent about my dad, and he says it when he needs to say it. So I’m always grateful when he comes through with the honest, honest truth.”Despite both being a part of the film industry, Sonakshi and Shatrughan Sinha have appeared together on screen only once, in the song “Rafta Rafta Medley” from Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se.
