The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested a murder-convict actor who was on the run after being out on parole 12 years ago, police said on Thursday.According to ANI report, Police Inspector Dhakhra PM Ahmedabad Crime Branch stated that the actor’s name is Hemant alias Nagindas Parshottamdas Modi Vaishnav, and he is 53 years old. He added that the actor was serving a life sentence in connection with a murder case that took place near Naroda in 2005.As reported, a case was registered against the accused under Sections 302, 324, 147, 148, 149 and 120 (B) of the IPC as well as Section 135(1) of the BP Act. Ahmedabad crime branch arrested the actor on Wednesday near Ahmedabad’s Gheekanta metro station.While addressing the media, the official said, “Yesterday, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested an accused named Hemant Nagindas Modi, who was absconding for 12 years after jumping parole. He was convicted in a murder case and remained in prison until 2014, after which he was released on parole. He had been looking for 12 years. During this period, the accused played various roles in the film industry and was also quite active on social media. Many of his web series were also released.”He added, “The Ahmedabad Crime Branch informed yesterday that this wanted accused had reached Ahmedabad. As a result, our office nabbed him in Ahmedabad yesterday.”According to the investigation by the Ahmedabad crime branch, during the time he was absconding, the convicted actor changed his name and started working in films as a supporting actor. The mentioned person was active in Hindi and Gujarati movies, web shows, TV serials and plays.Ahmedabad Crime Branch PM Dhakhra said, “Initially, to hide his phone number and identity, he avoided Ahmedabad completely. He stayed in and around Patan before moving to Bombay. As he did not use social media or mobile phones, we were unable to track him using technology. Later, based on information from local informants, about his arrival in Ahmedabad, he was caught yesterday.’According to a statement by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, during the 10 years he spent as a fugitive, the actor “maintained a very active and impressive career in the entertainment industry”, including films such as ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ and ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’.“During this period of escapism, her professional portfolio included roles in the films ‘Lahore 1947’ and ‘Metro In Dino’, South India’s ‘L2: Empuraan’ and various TV serials including ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’ and ‘Mere Sai’,” he added.Beyond the big screen, the actor remained active in theater with plays like ‘Yugpurush’ and ‘Gandhi Viruddh Godse’.Despite his high-profile career in movies, web series and serials, he successfully eluded the authorities until this latest arrest by the Crime Branch. Ahmedabad Police has now sent the accused back to ‘Mehsana Jail’ to serve the rest of his sentence.
