This is the accusation that has followed Brad Pitt for more than two decades and he has never been able to completely shake it off. Rumors that ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ in 2004, when Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. The two confirmed their separation in January 2005, and just months later, Pitt and Jolie were photographed together on vacation.
Aniston didn’t hold back when speaking to Vanity Fair at the time. “The world was surprised, and I was surprised. I would be a robot if I said that I have not felt a moment of anger, pain, shame,” he said. Pitt, for his part, denied anything physical happened while they were still married, telling CNN in 2007 that his feelings for Jolie only developed after his marriage ended.
Those close to the situation told a slightly different story, however. Aniston’s close friend Courteney Cox revealed that Pitt actually confessed his attraction to his then-wife Jolie before the split. “There was a connection, and he was honest with Jen about it. It was an attraction he struggled with for a while,” she said. A source close to the couple told People magazine that the two “gradually lost sight of each other as individuals” and “even though they had everything they wanted, they weren’t happy.”
