National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has invited online applications for the sixth phase of Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) for the academic session 2027-28.The program is being run in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to improve the quality of teacher education in India. According to the official notification, institutions can apply online from 8th May 2026 to 31st May 2026 till 11:59 PM.Applications will be accepted through the official NCTE portal only. The Council has asked eligible multidisciplinary institutes to apply under Section 14 and 15 of the NCTE Act, 1993.
What is NCTE?
NCTE is a statutory body established under the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993. It started functioning on 1 August 1995.This body is responsible for regulating teacher education in the country and maintaining adequate standards in teacher training institutions.
Only eligible institutions can apply.
NCTE said that only those institutes that meet the prescribed shortlisting criteria will be considered. Applications from institutions not meeting the required conditions will be rejected.The shortlisting rules were approved on 5 May 2026 during the 69th General Body Meeting of the Council.
Focus on better teacher education.
Integrated Teacher Education Program is an important part of NEP 2020. The policy aims to improve teacher training by promoting integrated and multidisciplinary education. The government wants future teachers to get better academic training through these programs.
A processing fee applies.
NCTE said that institutions applying for ITEP will have to pay the processing fee as per NCTE Rules, 1997, and subsequent amendments.
