Music composer and filmmaker Palaash Muchhal Social worker Vignyan Mane has been embroiled in a legal controversy with a case against him in Sangli, Maharashtra, accused of cheating and invoking the Atrocities Act. However, Muchhal’s legal representative has strongly denied the claims, calling them a pressure tactic.
The lawyer has dismissed the charges
Speaking to NDTV, advocate Shreyansh Mithare questioned the timing of the allegation.“If this happened on November 22, and now we are in May, why was no complaint filed till now? He only talked about a financial dispute earlier, but he never brought up allegations of caste-based remarks. This clearly shows that his intentions are not genuine and that he is just seeking publicity.” We will respond to this through legal means,” he said.
It refers to previous financial disputes
Mithare added that Mane’s earlier claims were limited to an alleged financial dispute.Giving background, he said, “On the 26th, he gave interviews to various news channels, in which he said that Palaash had cheated him of Rs 40 thousand. He said he would file a complaint at the Sangli police station. Therefore, we approached the Bombay High Court and sent him a defamation notice of Rs 10 crore.”
Defamation case and court order
The lawyer said the matter escalated when Mane did not retract his statements.“After that, he didn’t retract his statements, so we filed a defamation suit for Rs 11 crore in the Bombay High Court. The court has already issued a restraining order against him, stating that he cannot speak against Palaash in the media or defame him further,” he said.He added that despite the order, Mane has continued to give interviews, and that a contempt petition may be filed.According to Mithare, the defamation case was filed in February, and the Bombay High Court issued the restraining order on February 11. He also said that Mane was called twice but he was not.
‘Attempt to create pressure’
Mithar alleged that the latest allegation is an attempt to exert pressure.“He seems to think that this is just a pressure tactic… To create pressure, to withdraw the defamation suit or reach a settlement, he has filed this false cruelty case,” he said.

On Mane’s claims of association with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, Mithar said, “We are not aware of it; Smriti would be the best person to clarify. We only met her through her father. She never got a chance to go to Palaash Sangli as she is a resident of Mumbai.”

Palaash Muchhal and Smriti Mandhana got married on 23 November 2025 in Sangli.However, on the day of the wedding, Smriti’s father Shrinivas Mandhana was hospitalized due to a health problem. Reports later stated that Palash was also taken to the hospital due to viral symptoms and complications related to acidity.On 7 December 2025, Palaash and Smriti announced that they had called off their wedding.
