Dibyendu BhattacharyaBest known for his role in the Mirzapur series, he recently opened up about racism in the film industry, a deep-rooted issue that continues to influence casting decisions.In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Dibyendu shared a personal experience to highlight how bias based on skin color exists.She revealed that she had been replaced in an ad just days before filming.“This is a problem and it is very deep-rooted. Few days back, I was chosen for an ad and discussions started for 4-5 days and three days later, the shoot was supposed to happen. So I asked them if we are doing the shoot or not? They said, ‘Nahi Dada, aapko replace kiya kyunki aap kaale ho aur kaala actress nahi chahiye kaala’.”
It’s called a larger systemic problem
The actor added that the authors have used those exact words. He said he was not personally affected because he is comfortable with his identity. However, he pointed out that such incidents reflect a larger problem within the system.According to him, the issue goes beyond individual experiences and is related to how people are conditioned from a young age.
‘It’s very unfortunate’
“It is very sad par aap kuch nahi kar sakte ho. Jab aapki buniyaad hi, primary education mein aap social ethics, norms introduce nahi karoge toh aap yeh nahi kar sakte,” he said.He also compared it to countries like Japan and Korea, where he said children are taught discipline and empathy through the early education system.Dibyendu further explained that in India, such values often depend on being nurtured at home, rather than being reinforced through school.

Dibyendu was last seen in Undekhi Season 4 which premiered on 1st May. Directed by Ashish R Shukla, the show also stars Harsh Chhaya, Surya Sharma, Ankur Rathee and Gautam Rode in lead roles and has received mixed reviews.Prior to that, Maamla appeared in the serial Legal Hai 2 which was well received by critics and audiences.
