Shekhar Suman on actors behind visibility
Speaking to India Today, Shekhar Suman said that today’s industry places too much importance on being seen. Many influencers measure themselves by social media reactions, which he said can affect them deeply.“There’s too much focus on being seen around, and being liked, and being seen and appreciated. They get depressed if they don’t like it as much as they thought they would. Things like that. You believe in your talent, you believe in your craft, and the rest, everything will fall into place,” Suman said.He added: “And for actors, it’s not important to be seen around on social media. I don’t think so. Your work should speak for itself. When people see you on screen, they’ll remember you for years.”Suman then signaled his return to Akshaye Khanna’s limelight through ‘Dhurandhar’. He said, “Akshaye Khanna, for 10 years, was nowhere. No partying, no social media, nothing. One show and that’s it. It diminished all those notions about being seen.”

Suman said a good performance carries more weight than online activity. “I strongly believe that one strong performance is equivalent to the number of reels you put in, and you were crushed so many times,” he said.He also emphasized that talent needs a chance. Referring to Amitabh BachchanRising after initial setbacks, he said, “The opportunity you bring is what makes an actor who he is. So I feel like all actors are the same. The possibilities are different.”Suman has also praised Rakesh Bedi in ‘Dhurandhar’. Bedi recalled, “Sheku, you have to watch this film I made, Dhurandhar. You really love me. It’s a great film.”Suman said he was impressed by the role and credited the director, the script and the character for giving Bedi room to act. He even praised it Aditya Dhardirection, editing, cinematography and background score. He said the film kept audiences engaged despite its length, adding that audiences were “sitting on the edge of their seats”.
