Details of the trial and charges
As reported, the first trial was held in July 2024. Davidson was convicted of rape, two counts of sexual assault and voyeurism involving four women. In a second trial in January 2025, he was found guilty of raping a woman in London in March 2015 and also convicted of raping and attempting to sexually assault another woman in Thailand in December 2019, the Times reported.During the proceedings, Davidson claimed that all encounters were consensual. However, the jury rejected his defense and convicted him on all charges.
Court notes and evidence
Reports say Judge John Dodd KC at Wood Green Crown Court criticized Davidson’s behaviour. She claimed the singer had an “adventurous attitude” and treated women “without respect”, some of whom cared for or loved him. Also, the judge stated that the six victims had given evidence “lively and without exaggeration” and explained how he had “abused” their trust.Prosecutors presented video evidence recovered from Davidson’s phone. Some clips showed “eerily similar” men touching sleeping women. Prosecutor Richard Hearn said the victims were “as vulnerable as possible” and “so deep in sleep that they could not be disturbed”. Many victims only found out about the attacks after they were notified by the police.
Victims’ statements and defense arguments
Five victims attended the trial and three remained in court during the sentencing. Others were then encouraged to report abuse and seek help.“Seeing Ross’s account is an important moment for me, and I hope it encourages others who have been through something similar to feel able to speak up and seek help,” one said, according to The Guardian.Another added, “Talking about sexual violence is not easy. It can feel overwhelming, scary and sometimes isolating. However, I hope that by moving forward I have shown that it is possible to listen and that what happened matters.“I would encourage anyone who has experienced sexual violence to know that they are not alone, and that help is available.”Davidson’s defense barrister, Charlotte Newell KC, argued that he suffered from the “crippling effects” of undiagnosed ADHD. He said he had been “self-medicating” with drugs and alcohol throughout his career. He also stated that he has shown remorse and is improving in prison due to routine, medication and family support.Meanwhile, Davidson’s association with Spandau Ballet was short-lived. He joined as a singer in 2018 and left in 2019. His departure was linked to the uncertainty surrounding the team’s future. He later joined another group, Mercutio, but did not record new material with Spandau Ballet.
