Tata Sierra Falls into Construction Pit: Real-World Crash Safety Tested

A Tata Sierra SUV fell into a construction pit near Panchpakkhadi in Thane (West) when the driver lost control. The SUV was taken for a drive from a nearby showroom. According to reports, the vehicle was being driven by a woman when she lost control on the road. The SUV first hit three parked vehicles – an auto-rickshaw and two motorcycles – before proceeding towards a nearby construction site.The vehicle then broke through the barriers placed around the site and plunged into the pit. Three people were injured in the incident. There were three people in the SUV at the time – the female driver, a relative with her and an employee of the dealership present during the test drive. Rescue teams from Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation reached the spot and pulled out the passengers from the vehicle. Later, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the accident.

The SUV’s airbags were deployed during the crash, helping to protect the passengers. In addition, the vehicle’s body structure appeared to absorb the impact without any major structural collapse. Observations at the scene suggested that the SUV’s high-strength steel construction helped it retain its shape after the crash. The vehicle fell from a height of about 20 feet into a construction pit. Despite the collapse, the cabin area was not severely damaged, which may have helped limit the severity of the occupants’ injuries.Safety Features of Tata SierraIn terms of safety, the Tata Sierra gets six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, an electronic parking brake and all-wheel disc brakes as standard, along with hill hold assist. The SUV also offers a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, ABS with EBD and Level 2+ ADAS suite with 22 features.Next talking about the engine options, the new Sierra is offered with three engine options – a 1.5-litre Cryotec Turbo Diesel with 118 hp of power and 280 Nm of torque. The other two engines are the newly developed 1.5-litre NA petrol with 106 hp of power and 145 nm of torque and the 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine with 160 hp of power and 260 nm of torque.
