‘Michael’, the biopic on Michael Jackson, the late King of Pop, directed by Jaafar Jackson, has posted a solid opening weekend at the Indian box office. According to early estimates, the film collected around 16 million euros in the first three days, despite a mixed critical reception.According to Sacnilk trade estimates, the film earned 5.50 crores on Day 3 (Sunday) from 3,201 shows. This represents a growth of 7.8% compared to Saturday’s earnings of 5.10 million, indicating a positive momentum for the weekend. The film opened with Rs 3.70 crore on Friday, in addition to Rs 1.70 crore from the preview screenings, taking its net collection to around Rs 16 crore at the end of its first weekend.In terms of gross collections, “Michael” is estimated to have collected around 19.20 crores in India, just short of the 20 crore mark.The film’s performance has also placed it ahead of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ in terms of current box office momentum. The Ranveer Singh starrer, now in its sixth week, earned around 7.95 crores in the sixth weekend, taking the total India cume to around 1,130.59 crores.Box office figures indicate that the Hollywood film has emerged as a strong new competitor to Bollywood films. Although she has only ‘Dhurandhar’, she has also made an impact on the business of ‘Bhooth Bangla’, starring Akshay Kumar. The horror-comedy registered around 29 million in its second weekend, a sharp decline from its opening weekend of around 58 million.
