He left her later when she was pregnant and married Nandita. In a recent interview, Kapoor revisited a sensitive phase during her sister’s brief marriage to Puri, talking about her admiration for the actor and the emotional upheaval that followed.Kapoor praised Puri’s craft, but didn’t shy away from addressing what went wrong in his personal life. He said in an interview Siddharth Kannan, “Om Puri was a great actor. There was no great actor like him, but that was another matter. He became someone’s husband, and after he became someone’s husband, he sold a woman, and that’s where things went wrong, and I’m that woman’s brother.’Kapoor was referring to Seema Kapoor, who married Puri in the early 1990s. Their relationship ended after a few months after he found out about his involvement with another woman. Years later, they reconnected during Puri’s declining health. Reflecting on that time, Kapoor admitted that she struggled with anger, not only with Puri, but also with her sister. “He would have gone 10 years earlier, my sister was the one who took care of him. When your body became weak and fragile, then you came back. I was angry and upset with my sister too,” he said.Despite his past, Kapoor said he no longer holds grudges. “Today Om Puri saab is not here, his son is there, today also I pray to God for his son and his ex-wife Nandita. I have no enmity with anyone, but regrets that I ruined my sister Seema Kapoor’s life, she has no help.”He also admitted that telling the whole episode in detail is still emotionally difficult. “If I start telling those stories, it will become confusing, because the brother inside me will come out.” Talking about her personal dynamic with Puri, Kapoor added, “Om Puri was also very afraid of me because I speak plainly. I’m not afraid. I couldn’t, I couldn’t do anything.”In an earlier interview, Seema recalled the traumatic experience of that time. Om’s relationship with Nandita left her with a terrible trauma as she lost the baby while she was pregnant. During the divorce, Om gave her an alimony of Rs 6 lakh, but when she lost the baby, the actress sent her Rs 25,000. He said, “Forget to console me. He sent 25,000 rupees through his secretary. I refused, and his secretary told me, ‘It is this ego that destroys you.’ But what he thought was ego was just self-respect”.
