‘Project Hail Mary’ has been on everyone’s mind ever since it was released in cinemas around the world. At the forefront was Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of Dr. Ryland Grace, who befriends the alien Rocky on their way to Tau Ceti. James Ortiz, the puppeteer behind Rocky, is reportedly up for several awards in the future, including an Oscar nomination.

Variety recently reported that James Ortiz, the man who controlled the alien character Rocky in ‘Project Hail Mary,’ will be considered for nominations this coming awards season.According to the report, he is being considered for nominations for the 2027 Academy Awards and the 2027 Best Actor Awards. A nomination for the 2027 Critics’ Choice Awards may also be considered, as they do not have a rule against his nomination and participation in the film. Regarding the Golden Globe awards, due to the established rules, he will not be able to get a nomination there. Ortiz has received high praise for puppeteering Rocky in ‘Project Hail Mary’ and has appeared in a couple of other projects as an actor. Among others, ‘Girls Against Boys’ and ‘The Woodsman’, to name a few. He was also in ‘The Skin of Our Teeth’, which won a Drama Desk Award for outstanding puppet design.
