Right from the start, the film takes a dark turn after Katie Cannon is kidnapped while on vacation with her family in Egypt. However, after 8 long years of thinking that he was dead, the family has learned that he is alive and well. The family brings him to Albuquerque, though something sinister comes with them. It is revealed that a woman named Magoa kidnapped the little girl to perform a ritual and trap an evil spirit in her body. The evil one, also known as the Nasmaran, was once called the ‘Destroyer of the Family’; however, because of Magoa and his family, he ceased to exist in folklore. Katie was used as the next living body to capture the Nasmaran; however, the Egyptian government planned to flood the area where the body was trapped. A plane crash occurred, and Katie was found trapped in an ancient sarcophagus.
Katie and the evil demon are at war with each other
In the beginning it is shown that Katie is still alive somewhere in her body and is at war with the demon for control. From the beginning, he is sedated by his violent outbursts and his insidious ability to hurt others, even as things get worse by the day. Slowly, Charlie discovers the truth and believes that something is wrong with their daughter. When Larissa cuts Katie’s skin while cutting her nails, Charlie finds the remains of the enchanted clothing used to keep Katie and the demon trapped, covered in ancient language writing. More and more is explained about the ritual, that pieces of cloth are quite literally baked on the host’s skin to trap the demon.
What really happened at the end of ‘The Mummy’ and Katie Cannon?
At the end, the recording of the ritual performed on Katie is sent to Cannon through the Magician’s daughter, and the family is able to get the demon out of Katie and into Charlie. He then finds himself trapped in the basement of their home, without much of the protection they were using in Egypt, including an ancient room, a magical cloth, and a scarab used to tame the powers of ancient evil. The family visits him again and again on a regular basis. The ending shows Cannon, along with Detective Zaki, visiting the magician in his jail cell. It turns out that in order to take revenge for the kidnapping of their daughter, they want to transfer the evil to the magician instead.
