New Delhi: Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh Credit has been given to the head coach Gautam GambhirUnwavering belief in his methods as the main reason India won the T20 World Cup, saying the former opener’s clarity and courage under pressure made the difference.Speaking on SportsTalk, Yuvraj shed light on Gambhir’s coaching philosophy, describing him as someone with a sharp cricketing mind. “I have played with Gautham from U-16 and U-19, and I have always felt that he has a very good cricketing mind. The way he approaches the game has always stood out,” said Yuvraj. He pointed to Gambhir’s credentials as both a player and a mentor, recalling his match-winning innings in two World Cup finals. “He has performed at a high level and has been instrumental in winning two World Cups. Then as a mentor with Kolkata Knight Riders, he has won titles again. He must be doing something right,” added Yuvraj.‘His consistency led to World Cup victory’Yuvraj asserted that Gambhir’s greatest strength was his ability to stick to his game plan despite criticism. “When you become India’s coach, there are a lot of eyes on you,” he said. A mistake is shown 100 times, a success 1000 times.Referring to the criticism leveled at Gambhir after India’s Test failures, Yuvraj noted: “He went through that phase but stuck to his act. That’s why India had a chance to win the World Cup. Now he’s back on top – there will always be ups and downs in cricket.”According to Yuvraj, Gambhir’s aggressive blueprint struck fear into the opposition. “He was clear – we have to play this brand of cricket regardless of setbacks. We are coming after you from the first ball. If he has to hit, players like Abhishek or Sanju will go for him from the first ball,” he explained.India’s bowling depth also played an important role. Jaspreet Bumrah lead the attack. “Whenever India are in trouble, they have Bumrah to bail them out, with Hardik and Arsdeep supporting him,” Yuvraj said.He further highlighted the balance of the squad, even noting the presence of quality spinners like Kuldeep Yadav on the bench.Summing it up, Yuvraj reiterated: “Gambahir stuck to his act despite serious setbacks, and it earned him the T20 World Cup.”
