New Delhi: Ishan Kishan Currently living his dream. He waited for the opportunity and when it came, he grabbed it with both hands. He performed and is now reaping the rewards of his hard work. Ishan won the 2026 T20 World Cup, received two ‘Player of the Match’ awards, and was awarded the captaincy of Sunrisers Hyderabad.SRH will begin their IPL 2026 campaign on March 28 against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
SRH shared a video on Wednesday in which Ishan talks about his new challenge – leading the side.“I’m very happy, and I’m very happy that I got the opportunity to lead this team. And, to be very honest, I’m going to keep it simple, not do too much because when the players come for the IPL, I think they’re all very good players. You just have to make sure they’re on the right track,” Ishan said.“And their mentality doesn’t change after a few innings, after going around. And the rest is you know it’s going to be a good season, I guess, and we’ll do it together. I think there’s a lot more to learn this season because I’ll tell you, over the last few years, one thing I’ve learned is the most important thing for a cricketer is to be a good player throughout the season.”“So, mostly this season, we’ll make sure we just stay in the present, we keep it simple and work as hard as we can before the match starts. But in the match, we’re just going to enjoy the game and take it one match at a time,” he added.Ishan had a brilliant 2026 T20 World Cup, scoring 317 runs at an average of 35.22 with a strike rate of over 193.“It was, I think, some of the best days of my life because, you know, suddenly being in the team and winning the World Cup with the team, so it was one of the best moments. Because, you know, there was a lot of hard work going on. There were players, a few of them were not in form, but when the time was there, when it was needed the most, everyone played excellent cricket. And we just tried to be the best part of the team, and I think we all achieved greatness with that this season,” he said.Ishaan also spoke about the power of expression, saying that he always believed that he would make a big comeback.“When I wasn’t on the team, there wasn’t– I mean, how do I explain it? There was always a sense that I was going to make the team anyway, because I knew that the most important thing would be the hard work I did. And you know, you always have to believe in yourself.”It was the domestic grind that helped Ishan pave his way to the biggest prize in T20I cricket, as he won Jharkhand its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) title last year, topping the charts with 517 runs in 10 innings, including two centuries and two fifties.“This will be a message to a lot of people I feel, who are losing track or who don’t believe in themselves, and they should know that they should believe and just keep working hard. Things will change,” he signed off.
