Vibhu Suryavanshi turns 15 today, celebrating his birthday just a day before IPL 2026. Ever since his IPL debut, fans have been constantly wondering when he will feature in India’s senior men’s team. With him officially turning 15 just a day before the start of the new IPL season, he is now eligible to participate in senior international cricket, as per the ICC Player Eligibility Regulations (Article 4).Suryavanshi grabbed global attention in his first IPL season in 2025 with a stellar performance. In his second IPL match, he scored a sensational 100 off 35 balls.However, his rise began three years ago, when, as a 12-year-old, he was already dominating bowlers much older than him. Despite his form, he was unable to make his senior debut due to age restrictions. However, after his heroics in the U-19 World Cup 2026, with a brilliant performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Ranji Trophy 2025, and with his age now, he could soon make headlines as a member of India’s senior men’s team.
Is he now eligible to play for the senior men’s team?
Article 4, 4.1 Eligibility on the basis of age of the International Cricket Council Rules of Player Eligibility states, “Article 4 Eligibility on the basis of age, “A player shall only be eligible to represent his country in cricket (for ICC events and U-19 events) if he is of age on the date of submission of the relevant squad (in the case of ICC events including U19 events) or on the date of the first match of the series/tournament to be played (all other international in case of matches). “Following the introduction of the ICC Regulations in November 2020, the welfare and physical safety of minors participating in international cricket, including during travel, the ICC introduced a minimum age requirement of 15 years for all players participating in international matches at Under-19 level and above, whether at ICC events or otherwise.Now that he has turned 15, he could be in contention for a senior India debut after the end of IPL 2026. With the team currently going through a transition phase in Test cricket, the selectors can keep a close eye on them, especially after their performance against the England Under-19s. Looking ahead, with the preparations for the 2028 Olympics and the T20 World Cup cycle, Suryavanshi’s best mode could change for India. With regard to ODI debuts, selectors cannot make squad changes until the 2027 World Cup which could be the last for some senior players. After his impressive IPL debut, Suryavanshi was included in the India U19 setup, where he continued to excel.U-19 World Cup 2026 (Player of the Tournament): Suryavanshi led India to their sixth title, notably scoring 175 off 80 balls (including 15 sixes) in the final against England.Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26: He became the youngest player to score a century in List A at the age of 14 years and 272 days. During his 84-ball 190 against Arunachal Pradesh, he broke ABD Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 59 balls.Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Named Bihar’s vice-captain at the age of 14, he scored his maiden first-class fifty with a 67-ball 93 against Meghalaya, narrowly missing out on becoming the youngest Ranji centurion.Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26: He continued his white-ball dominance with an unbeaten 108 and a fifty (50 off 34 balls) against Maharashtra, showing improved maturity while pacing his innings.Rising Stars Asia Cup (Doha): Representing India A, he scored 144 off 42 balls against UAE.
