New Delhi: When will Vaibhav Suryavanshi debut in India? When will the 15-year-old play for the Indian team? These questions are once again being asked by former cricketers and fans. After the youngster scored 52 off 17 balls in Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 opener against Chennai Super Kings, his voice has gained momentum.Now former England captain Michael Vaughan is in talks and wants the youngster from Samastipur, Bihar to be a part of India’s senior set-up.Vaughan believes Suryavanshi should be selected for the white-ball tour of England scheduled for July. India will play five T20Is and three ODIs on this tour.“When will he debut in Indian cricket? And I’m just watching, and I know we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves. It’s only the first innings of the IPL, but there’s a white-ball tour of England in a few months. And if I was Indian cricket, I’d bring him on the tour. Not necessarily, he’s going to be in the team now, but he’s going to be in the team now.” “Does he need to be brought into the Indian team and bring the kind of Indian cricket, and if he plays a match or two, great, but is he allowed to go on tour at the age of 15?” Vaughan said on Crackbuzz.“I will give him a bit of experience with this Indian team. Not necessarily, like I said, jump straight into the side, but just stick with him. He is good enough to play. I have no doubt about that,” he added.
After the RR bowlers bowled out CSK for a paltry 127 runs, the spotlight once again shifted to Suryavanshi as he walked out to open the innings.And he did what he does best – sending the bowlers on a leather hunt.Suryavanshi put on an opening stand of 75 with Yashvi Jaiswal and scored 52 off just 17 balls, with five sixes and four fours as RR beat CSK by eight wickets.“When you think he’s batting with somebody at the other end, which I’ve had over the last few years, he’s with the best in terms of players across all formats. Yashvi Jaiswal, I think he’s a brilliant player. And I’m not saying that it made Jaiswal look insignificant tonight, but there was a gulf of fearlessness. You could see Jaiswal looking at the ball just trying to play. This kid is just looking to get the ball into the stands. He just has remarkable independence,” Vaughan said.“There was a contrast in both innings. You had Suryavanshi, who just hit pure modern sixes. And I respected Jaiswal, because I don’t think he was seeing it the way he could have seen it. So he didn’t drop it. His strike rate wasn’t great, but he had a bit of time in between,” he added.Prior to the IPL, Suryavanshi had helped India win the Under-19 World Cup title with a brilliant knock of 175 in the final against England.
