The integrity of government exams has once again come under scrutiny in Uttar Pradesh after authorities issued a stern warning against insensitive security checks during recruitment exams. The directive comes amid reports that some candidates were allegedly asked to remove religious symbols during searches, which authorities have now called unacceptable.The message from the authorities is blunt: security protocols cannot override personal beliefs and cultural dignity.
The Recruitment Board reiterated strict guidelines.
The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board has made it clear that no candidate should be forced to remove religious or cultural symbols such as Kalva or Mangalsutra to appear in its examinations.Officials said the board has long-standing policy guidelines stating that religious or cultural symbols worn by candidates should not be removed or interfered with during the security screening process.Police personnel posted at examination centers are repeatedly briefed about these instructions before each examination. Despite this, the authorities have termed the emergence of complaints as highly regrettable and objectionable.The board has warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against any official found violating these guidelines, indicating a zero-tolerance stance on such behaviour.
The government is stepping up with a clear message.
This issue has also attracted the attention of the state leadership. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all recruitment board chairmen to ensure that the examination process is conducted with sensitivity and respect for social and religious beliefs.As per the guidelines, any derogatory comment or action targeting the faith, identity, caste, sect or community of any candidate will not be tolerated under any circumstances.This directive highlights the need for examination authorities to maintain strict discipline without compromising the dignity of the candidates.
Paper-setters warned, habitual offenders will face bans.
The government has also widened the ambit of its directive by bringing paper setters under direct scrutiny. Officials have been directed to issue clear guidelines to the question paper setters, ensuring that the test material does not contain insensitive or derogatory references related to religion, caste or cultural traditions.Those found to repeatedly violate these rules will face immediate blacklisting from the exam system, a move aimed at preventing controversial or defamatory content from entering recruitment exams.
Mandatory Provisions in Test Agreements
To ensure long-term compliance, the government has mandated that future contracts with paper setters must include mandatory clauses to protect the dignity and sensitivity of the examination process.These provisions will be included in the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with the persons or agencies involved in the preparation of the question papers.Officials say the aim is to ensure that the recruitment process maintains purity, credibility and social sensitivity.
