‘Na Toh Karwan Ki Talash Hain’
While most people mistaken this song to be sung by Arjit Singh, it was actually sung by Shahzad Ali. Let’s not forget the ‘spy in Pakistan meme’ inspired by this song, which flooded social media feeds. Later, people came to know that this popular number is a repeated version of a Qawali. The original version of the song featured in the retro film ‘Barsat ki Raat’ (1960). It featured the voices of Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Mohammed Rafi and other legendary singers. Sahir Ludhianvi penned the lyrics and Roshan originally composed the music.
‘Na De Dil Pardesi Nu’
Even before “Dhurandhar” hit the theatres, this Punjabi banger created a buzz. The raps of ‘Hanumankind’ (Sooraj Cherukat) along with the raw vocals of Jasmine Sandhu and Sudhir Yaduvanshi bring magic to the song. Also, the high-energy, modern Bhangra rhythms mixed with lively hip-hop/rap percussion with elements of trap music are hard to ignore. But this power packed song is a reprise version of an old Punjabi folk song. The original song was sung by Mohammad Sadiq and Ranjit Kaur in the mid-1990s. Lyrics of the song were penned by Babu Singh Mann. It tells about the pain of separation between two lovers and the conversations they have in between. Although this song has seen many remixes over the years, it is this version by Shashwat Sachdev that has resonated with people the most.
‘Ramba Ho’
While in the film Hamza’s character is seen dodging and shooting bullets at a party, in the original version of the song, it is a party scene. The original version of the song was released in 1981 for the movie ‘Armaan’. He was voiced by Usha Uthup, also known as ‘the lady with the baritone’. The music track of the song was composed by Late Bappi Lahiri and the lyrics were penned by Indeevar. And who can forget Kalpana Iyer’s sensual and powerful dance that left the audience swooning. Even years later, when Kalpana danced again to this famous disco song at an event, netizens applauded the septuagenarian’s enthusiasm.
‘Ari Ari’

But this is again a repeat version of the 2003 number by Indo-Danish duo ‘Bombay rockers’ (Navtej Singh Rehal and Thomas Sardorf). ‘Introducing’ was a part of their debut album. The group worked with producer Janus Barnewitz and combined Punjabi vocals with English pop, which made the song popular abroad as well. The lyrics of the song also contain an old Punjabi folk song ‘Bari Barsi’ which is generally sung at weddings.
‘Tama Tama Lodge’
Sanjay Dutt’s popular dance number ‘Tama Tama Loge’ has been used differently in the second part of ‘Dhurandhar’. The song originally features Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit. Also known as India’s first fully computerized song, Bappi Lahiri created the ‘King of Disco Pop’ for the film ‘Thanedaar’ (1990). Indeevar wrote the lyrics. She was later roped in for the film ‘Badrinath ki Dulhaniya’ starring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. The track is played in the background during the killing sequence of Sanjay Dutts Character, SP Chaudhary Aslam.
