Sophie Turner’s injury halts production: What happened?
According to Entertainment Weekly, Turner’s injury interrupted the filming of the series ‘Tomb Raider’, where he is playing the famous adventurer. Amazon MGM Studios released a statement saying, “Sophie Turner recently suffered a minor injury. As a precaution, production has been suspended to allow her time to recover. We hope to resume production as soon as possible.”Filming began in January, and this hiatus is in the early days, which is not ideal, as it could push the series’ release date much further.According to NewsBytes report, the shooting should resume in two weeks. Turner is expected to return after his recovery. The crew is still being paid, so the shutdown is no big deal; it’s like a short recovery break.
What is Sophie Turner’s ‘Tomb Raider’ about?
If you’ve read the comics, Lara Croft is not an easy character. According to EW, Turner trained diligently for the character—eight hours a day, five days a week—to be ready for all the action. He also discovered a chronic back problem while preparing for the role, which shows how tough it has been. The character requires agility, stamina and some serious fighting skills. Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander both underwent similar rigorous training for their versions of Lara Croft. For those who don’t know, ‘Tomb Raider’ has been a part of pop culture since the first game came out in 1996, and the sequel that followed. There were a couple of animated series, followed by a successful 2018 reboot starring Alicia Vikander. This time, Phoebe Waller-Bridge of ‘Fleabag’ fame is running the show. According to EW’s report, she’s a longtime fan, and when she walked in, she said, “If I told my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to have the passionate collaborators to bring it to television.”The upcoming Tomb Raider series is sticking to its roots: Lara Croft is a brilliant archaeologist and adventurer, traveling the world, discovering ancient secrets, fighting enemies and exploring dangerous places. As for Sophie Turner, she has already made her mark with her role as Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’, and has since played Jean Gray in ‘X-Men’ and directed projects such as ‘Joan’ and ‘Do Revenge’.There is still no official release date for the ‘Tomb Raider’ series. Since filming just started in early 2026 and now there’s this short hiatus, we’re probably looking at late 2026 or maybe even 2027 for the show to finally hit screens.
