Pune: Abhay Satyendra Nivagi, a legal professional, has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree by Vishwakarma University, Pune for his dissertation titled “Ease of Doing Business and New Labor Codes”. The research was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Siddharth Jabade, former Vice Chancellor of Vishwakarma University, Pune.This research provides a comprehensive overview of Indian labor legislation from 1800 to the present day and critically examines the four labor codes introduced by the Government of India, which integrate 29 Central Acts into a unified regulatory framework. Research focuses on challenges for employers and workers, as well as benefits for both. Drawing on extensive experience in labor and industrial relations law, including engagement in a wide range of sectors such as manufacturing, banking, hospitality, health care, and information technology, and informed by discussions with retired judges, senior industry executives, and trade union leaders from around the country, the paper offers a practitioner’s perspective that is rare in the literature.The work was reviewed by three external examiners. Prof. José Apresido da Silva (Brazil), Dr. Mamoun Rasheed (Bahrain) and Dr. Rajan Gengaje (Pune) all recommended the award of the PhD, Prof. Da Silva suggested approval with honors and distinction.
