Later, he was brought back for a crucial Super Eight game against the Zimbabwe national cricket team and turned their tournament around with a brilliant performance.
Samson played some crucial knocks as India progressed in the contest. He scored an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies national cricket team in Kolkata, followed by 89 in the semi-final against the England national cricket team in Mumbai and another 89 in the final against the New Zealand national cricket team in Ahmedabad. His total of 321 runs in five innings became the highest by an Indian batsman in a single T20 World Cup edition and earned him the man of the tournament award.Ponting said on the ICC Review Show, “For India to be there with him at the top, it was a big decision.
