The Kapur family’s bitter legal battle has erupted following the death of businessman Sunjay Kapur, with his mother Rani Kapur and daughter Priya Sachdev locked in a dispute over the RK Family Trust. In a recent interaction, Rani Kapur opened up about the ongoing feud, alleging wrongdoing and vowing to fight the case till the end.
“I will fight to the death… he wants to take everything”
Responding to the withdrawal from the trust, Rani Kapur told NDTV, “I think it’s very wrong on her part. She came into my family seven years ago… If my husband was alive, he wouldn’t have accepted this.”She added, “My husband created the RK Family Trust, and it will always be like that. I don’t know how he got into it and now he wants to take my house and everything. I won’t accept it. I will fight until I die.’
“I was under no conditions…he made me sign the paper”
Making serious allegations, Rani Kapur said she had to sign the documents soon after her son’s death.“We had just come from London three days after my son’s funeral. He took me to the office. I was in no condition to sign or read anything. He forced me to sign the papers,” she said.Remembering the moment, he added: “When I came out, my daughter asked me what I had signed. I don’t know, I was crying.”Calling the documents invalid, he said: “I should be sued for that… I signed a lot of documents without reading them. Not that I don’t read them, but I wasn’t in a position to do so. What I signed is null and void.”
“He thinks it’s my house, I don’t know how”
Rani Kapoor also spoke about not being able to enter her house in Delhi. “We built that house a few years ago when we moved from Bombay to Delhi because my husband was starting a company there,” she said.“Now he thinks the house is the same, for what, I don’t know,” he added, while denying that attempts had been made to contact him. “Never… I’m telling you right now, never.”
‘Karisma is in a relationship… I meet my grandchildren regularly’
Amid the controversy, Rani Kapoor said she continues to maintain contact with other members of her family, including her ex-daughter. Karisma Kapoor.“Karisma is very in touch with me. They come and have lunch… we go out. I meet regularly,” he said, “I’ve always been very fond of her and the children.”She also expressed emotional pain at being away from her grandchildren. “I miss that little one…I haven’t been home since my son passed away. I can’t go into that house again.”
‘Once I get what’s mine, I’ll decide’
When asked how she intends to resolve the matter, Rani Kapoor remains guarded. “Once I get it, I’ll decide… you know how Indian courts are, it’s a long legal battle. I don’t want to say anything right now.”The legal battle over the RK Family Trust continues in the courts, with both sides challenging each other’s authority, turning the family dispute into a major battle over ownership and control in the Rs 30 billion estate dispute.
