Ever since Sunjay Kapur passed away in June last year, there has been a legal battle between his mother Rani Kapur and widowed wife Priya Sachdev over the Rs 30,000 crore inheritance. As per the latest update, Rani was removed from the RK family trust by Priya. Now in a recent interview, Rani has opened up about the ongoing family feud, which she says is deeply personal and emotionally exhausting. She said she is still grieving the loss of her son. He shared that he moved from Mumbai to Delhi when the family business was established there and played an active role in building their home and business. According to her, things remained stable until her son, Sunjay Kapur, got involved with Priya Kapur, after which things started to change. In an interview to ANI she said, “It is very painful because my husband made this trust (RK family trust) and gave me everything. This girl (Priya Kapur) tried to take over everything my husband had built in his entire life. We moved from Bombay to Delhi, built a house. That house I built sitting under a tree. He thinks he’s got it. Fortunately, I have this house and am out of Delhi since my son’s death. I didn’t back down. Now I’m afraid. What will he do to me?…I don’t know what he will do to get wealth and it’s all my husband’s work. Someone else’s My son took over because he is a son. That’s… I don’t want anywhere near that place.”Rani further alleged that soon after her son’s death, Priya started asserting control over the business. She said the company is the result of her husband’s lifelong efforts and said she cannot accept that they have only been a part of her son’s life for the past few years.Regarding the possibility of a solution, he said that there has been no discussion so far and he stated that there does not seem to be a resolution soon. Reflecting on the emotional toll, she described the months following her son’s death as traumatic and revealed that she has not returned home to Delhi since. He also stated that no one from the other side has reached out to him.From a legal perspective, her counsel, senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, stated that Rani Kapur had challenged the RK Family Trust in court, arguing that it was created without her knowledge or consent. He clarified that there is currently no court that refuses to operate the trust.Explaining his legal position, he said that as a liquidator, he has the power under the trust deed to remove a trustee without assigning any reason, particularly to protect the estate. He added that any decision regarding the trustees needs his approval, and that without his signature, these actions are not valid.Rani Kapur has also sent a fresh notice to Priya Kapur to cease acting as trustee, confirming that her removal has become effective after the notice period. He has also rejected attempts to remove him from the trust, because they are legally unsustainable.
