New Delhi: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has expressed concern over the team balance of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026, particularly due to Cameron Greenehas a limited role. Bought as a key all-rounder, Green did not bowl in the first two matches, affecting the team’s overall composition and resilience.Gavaskar suggested that KKR might need to rethink their strategy.
“KKR will need to think about their combination if Cameron Green is not bowling. If he is not cooperating with the ball, they will have to consider bringing in another specialist batsman,” he told Star Sports.Acknowledging Green’s batting prowess, Gavaskar pointed out the inconsistency. “We know he has scored a century in IPL and he can bat well but his form has not been good recently,” he said. He also highlighted the weak spots in the middle order, adding, “The green at No. 4 is fine, but the biggest problem seems to be at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.”On the other hand, Gavaskar praised Nitish Kumar Reddy for his all-round performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He noted the obvious improvement in Reddy’s bowling, “He’s definitely bowling faster now and he’s obviously added a bit more pace… you can see a better rhythm and flow in his action as well.”Reddy’s performance with both bat and ball played a key role in his team’s victory. Gavaskar called the development “very encouraging news for India”, highlighting his potential as a future asset to the national team.
