Snoop Dogg He will star in the director’s film ‘God of The Rodeo’ Rosalind Ross. Additionally, Snoop and Sara Ramaker of his Death Row Pictures have signed on to produce the film with Ross. The film is based on Daniel Bergner’s famous report inside the deadliest prison in the American South.
What is ‘God of The Rodeo’ about?
The film is based on journalist Daniel Bergner’s 1998 book ‘God of The Rodeo’, which takes place inside the notorious Angola prison in Louisiana. Bergner spent a year in prison, following the inmates as they completed the annual prison rodeo and watching them struggle with harsh realities within the prison walls. The film will follow Buckkey (played by Shia LaBeouf), an inmate serving a life sentence in 1967 who participates in Angola’s first prisoner rodeo.

In an interview with Deadline, Snoop said, “To be associated with Scot Free Productions and to work with Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott on ‘God of the Rodeo’ is life-changing and an honor.” Saying Rosalind Ross brought a story with “heart and passion,” the hip-hop legend said, “Me and the team at Death Row Pictures are coming in as producers, I’m acting, and Death Row Records is building the soundtrack, and this one’s got soul.”

The rapper made several cameos in films throughout the ’90s before making his major acting debut in 2001’s “Bones,” where he played the title character Jimmy Bones. He recently starred in ‘1992’, a heist thriller written by Sascha Penn and directed by Ariel Vromen. He has also lent his voice to animated features such as Pharrell’s 2024 Lego biopic ‘Piece by Piece’.
