Recalling how he landed Andaz Apna Apna, Shehzad said, “Vinay Sinha once told me, ‘I’ll cast you in my next film’. I thought ‘next film’ was just another promise!”But things changed quickly. “One day, I saw an advertisement in the newspaper – Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena, Karisma – but of course, my name was not there.”“At that moment, I got a call asking Sunny to come to Super Sound immediately. I realized something was happening.”
“Rajkumar Santoshi insisted on me”
Shehzad has backed Rajkumar Santoshi. “He told me, ‘I threw them all away, but for one character—Bhalla—I insisted on you,'” he recalled.However, there was a catch. “He said, ‘You have to use your father Ajit’s voice and style’. I was nervous…but I agreed. And so the journey began.”The decision did not go well at home. “Yes, he was angry. He told me, ‘Next time, don’t you dare do this again,'” Shehzad revealed.
‘People were looking for me’
Despite the warning, he continued. “What could I do? People appreciated it. At the end of the day, we’re entertainers, we’re here to entertain the public,” he said.Explaining his stance, he added: “I told people that he liked it. Also, he stopped working at that point. So I said, ‘If you don’t work, people look for you in me.'”“He left at a peak, so naturally there was a void – people still wanted Ajit in one form or another.”In retrospect, Shehzad believes that everything finally fell into place. “Others also began to bring that essence in their own way. Everyone found their place; I continued to do my work, and others did theirs,” he concluded.
