Mumbai: India’s former and… Mumbai Indians TOI has learned that captain Rohit Sharma has undergone a scan to assess the severity of the suspected hamstring injury. His availability for MI’s next match against Punjab Kings in Mumbai on Thursday will depend on the results.“Yes, Rohit underwent an MRI on Monday morning (at HL Reliance Hospital) to determine the extent of his hamstring injury. If the results don’t look good, he may miss a couple of matches. The scan results will be back by this evening,” a source close to the development told TOI.
The 38-year-old retired suffered the injury during MI’s 18-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. He was dismissed in the sixth over after scoring 19 runs off 13 balls which included two fours and a six.Before retiring injured, Rohit was attended by the MI physio before the first ball of the over. After a short break for treatment, he returned to face the next delivery, blocked it, and then left the field.Rohit has had hamstring problems in the past. “I’m not entirely sure yet – maybe it’s a little bit of a problem – but I can’t say for sure. I was in the dugout, so I don’t have a lot of information about it,” teammate Sheriffin Rutherford said after the match.Rohit, who recently completed 15 years with MI, has scored 137 runs in four matches, including a half-century. His presence will be crucial for a team that has lost three of its first four.
