Director: ‘Dhuandhar: The Revenge’ Aditya Dhar and protagonist Ranveer Singh lead, made waves at the box office last week as it officially overtook ‘Baahubali 2: The Revenge’ to become the highest grossing film at the North American box office. Following the film’s social media handle, the spy action film was hailed for setting a new benchmark for Indian cinema overseas, To Rana Daggubatiwho played a leading role in the film, has shared his thoughts. Reacting to the Bollywood film raising its bar at the box office, which has so far earned $24.39 million, Daggubati welcomed a new milestone at the box office.

Chatting to Variety India, Rana said, “It’s good. A decade later, but it’s still very good. I think we are all still touching the tip of the iceberg.’“Dhurandhar 2” with an impressive 2-week collection in the US, surpassed the lifetime earnings of “Baahubali 2” which stood at $20.80 million. The film set the record more than nine years ago.Looking at the bigger picture, Daggubati shared, “You will have Baahubalis, you will have Dhurandhars, you will have all these cinemas, but cinema that is personal will resonate.”

Defending the cause of local cinema and stories, he added, “I think Korean cinema has done that in part by taking something very local in their culture and telling it. America did it beautifully in its early days, where we know more about American history than Indian history, just because of the cinema they made.”The actor also highlighted the growing global appeal of Indian cinema and stories. Talking about a Malayalam film about nurses working in Bombay, he shared that although the film did reasonable business in India, it became a global phenomenon. “France’s collections alone will be four times India’s. So our local stories resonate in many parts of the world because there is human understanding,” he said and added that it is time for Indian filmmakers to find the best film language and move forward.
“Dhurandhar 2” follows “Baahubali 2” worldwide box office record
At the worldwide box office, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has already crossed the 1.5 billion euro mark. The film, which entered the box office in its third week, is already on track to surpass ‘Pushpa 2’s lifetime box office record of Rs 1,742 crore and ‘Baahubali 2’ of Rs 1,788 crore, aiming to become the highest grossing Indian film of all time. However, it will also have to beat Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’, which still holds the top spot with a total of 2.07 billion.
