Rajpal Yadav He has been caught in a legal tussle over a 9 crore check bounce case and has recently been sent to Tihar Jail. In a new update, Delhi High Court he has been given flexibility, extending the provisional bond until April 1. The actor is now preparing to sue in court instead of opting for a settlement.In Wednesday’s hearing, the High Court observed that Rajpal had already made substantial payments to the complainant, and therefore decided not to revoke the earlier order suspending punishment in check bounce cases. Temporary protection has been extended until the next court date.
After the court’s latest order, the actor’s lawyer SK Sharma has now revealed that Rajpal plans to fight the case legally. In a video shared by ANI, he said, “Court ne Rajpal ji se pucha ke aapne samay samay pe kahan hai ke aap paise dena chahthe ho, toh aap settle kar rahe ho ya nahi? After the hearing, Rajpal himself expressed confidence in the judicial process: “The next hearing will be on April 1. I have full faith in the Indian judicial system. Dudh ka dudh aur pani ka pani nikalne ki puri koshish karenge.” (We will try to find out the truth).The bench headed by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma stated that the actor was cooperating with the judicial process and had already spent time in custody. “I don’t see any reason. He’s not running away. He’s here. He’s coming to court, and he’s been in jail. He’s already on bond; I’m not going to send him to jail. He’s made big payments. So I’m not going to send him to jail, right now,” said the judge.The case dates back to 2010, when Rajpal borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film failed at the box office, leading to mounting losses and protracted financial disputes. In 2018, a court convicted the actor under the Negotiable Instruments Act for dishonoring checks and sentenced him to six months in jail, a verdict that was upheld by the sessions court in 2019. Over time, the liability increased to nearly 9 million.Rajpal got interim bail earlier and was released from jail on February 16. The High Court had initially granted relief till March 18, including a bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety. He also deposited 1.5 million, which the complainant’s lawyers confirmed he received against the amount of the check received in the company’s account, paving the way for his bail.
