After the court’s latest order, the actor’s lawyer SK Sharma has now revealed that Rajpal plans to fight the case legally. After the hearing, Rajpal himself expressed confidence in the judicial process: “The next hearing will be on April 1. I have full faith in the Indian judicial system. So I’m not going to send him to jail, right now,” said the judge.The case dates back to 2010, when Rajpal borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film failed at the box office, leading to mounting losses and protracted financial disputes. In 2018, a court convicted the actor under the Negotiable Instruments Act for dishonoring checks and sentenced him to six months in jail, a verdict that was upheld by the sessions court in 2019. Over time, the liability increased to nearly 9 million.Rajpal got interim bail earlier and was released from jail on February 16. The High Court had initially granted relief till March 18, including a bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety. He also deposited 1.5 million, which the complainant’s lawyers confirmed he received against the amount of the check received in the company’s account, paving the way for his bail.
