the director Ashwath MarimuthuCelebrated for his work in ‘Oh My Kadavule’ and ‘Dragon’, he recently discussed his next project Rajinikanth. He revealed that he discussed his next film with Rajinikanth and was subsequently offered the chance to direct the legendary actor’s initially proposed film. As the film did not materialise, Ashwath stated that it was an important project for him and getting the opportunity to narrate a story to Rajinikanth was a big moment in his career.
Rajinikanth appreciates Ashwath Marimuthu
Chatting to Touring Talkies, Ashwath said, “Rajini sir called me after watching ‘Dragon’ and appreciated many aspects of the film.” In that meeting, Rajinikanth asked if he had a story. “I told him I had one, but I already had commitments,” he said. Later, when he had time, he prepared a story for the star. “I told the story, and he liked it very much. He listened to the story without moving and even skipped food,” says Ashwath. He added: “He said the story was very good and especially praised the role of the villain.”
Ashwath Marimuthu and Rajinikanth’s project fell through after initial talks.
Although everything seemed to fall into place, the project did not move forward. Ashwath explains, “Everything was going well, but for some reason, it didn’t happen.” However, Rajinikanth gave her encouraging words. “He told me to keep the story safe and said it would suit someone like him or something Kamal Haasan” explained Ashwath. He further shared, “He called Raj Kamal Films and talked about my story.” For Ashwath, this recognition meant a lot. “The fact that they liked my narration itself is a great happiness for me,” he said.
Ashwath praises Rajinikanth’s humility and respect for directors
Ashwath also spoke about Rajinikanth’s humble nature. “I told him on Sunday that the story was ready, and by Monday morning, he gave me time,” he said. He added: “When I arrived early, he was already there waiting.” Recalling another moment, Ashwath said, “He had an important meeting, but still he forgave me for making him wait.” He continued: “He even sent his manager to apologize again and then said sorry several times.“Concluded Ashwath, ‘At that moment, I understood why he is a superstar even at 75.’Ashwath Marimuthu has locked his next with Silambarasan, and the pre-production work of the film is going on continuously. Reported to be a romantic drama, Silambarasan will sport a different look for the film, tentatively titled ‘STR51’.
