Film maker Priyadarshan he’s setting the record straight. As anticipation builds for the release of ‘Bhooth Bangla’ in April 2026, the director has addressed the inevitable comparisons with his 2007 cult classic, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’.In a candid clarification, he emphasized while both films are appearing Akshay Kumar and mixing “horror and humor,” the similarities end there.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Priyadarshan stated that “Bhooth Bangla” and “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” have completely different stories. He stated, “The biggest problem is expectations. I don’t want (them); it’s something I really hate.”The filmmaker said that each film is different, and that his next film cannot be compared. Elaborating on his stance, Priyadarshan shared, “Basically because ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ is a psychological thriller, but ‘Bhooth Bangla’ is a fantasy.”
What’s more, the filmmaker clarified: “But it’s based on fantasy, okay, we have a lot of superstitions in our country… A lot of people believe in ghosts, and they do a lot of rituals.”The director added that both films are full of horror and humor; however, the narrative approach and themes differ in each film.
