Filmmaker Priyadarshan has hit out at the controversy over his ‘education’ on Rajpal Yadav, clarifying that his comment was misconstrued and he never meant to question the actor’s academic background. The remark had earlier sparked controversy, especially at a time when Rajpal Yadav was in the news for his Rs 9 crore kickback case and legal troubles.

Film maker Priyadarshan has addressed the controversy surrounding his “education”. Rajpal Yadavclarifying that his comment was misunderstood and that he did not want to question the actor’s academic training.The remark had earlier sparked controversy, especially at a time when Rajpal Yadav was in the news for his Rs 9 crore kickback case and legal troubles.Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Priyadarshan explained his stand and insisted that no offense was intended.

‘It was a misunderstanding’

Asked if Rajpal was injured, Priyadarshan said, “No, not at all. In fact, we talked about it recently. It was a small misunderstanding.”What is meant by the statement has been clarified. I meant “village education”, exposure, not formal education. A person who grows up in a village has a very different exposure compared to someone in a metro city.’

“It’s about life experience, not qualifications”

Elaborating further, the director said the comment was based on differences in upbringing. “There’s a big difference between someone from a town or small town and someone from the metro. People in towns are often more innocent and trustworthy because they grow up in an environment where everyone helps each other.”“On the contrary, in a metro city, you know the type of people around you – good and bad – from childhood,” he added.Priyadarshan reiterated that his observation was not about academics. “Not at all. I wasn’t talking about school or degrees. I was talking about life experience, what you learn from your surroundings and upbringing.”

Putting to rest any speculation about a fallout, the filmmaker said there was no tension between the two. “Yeah, he totally understood. He was never hurt or worried.” Priyadarshan and Rajpal Yadav have collaborated in several popular comedies over the years. The upcoming film Bhooth Bangla, the much-awaited horror-comedy starring Akshay Kumar, has undergone a change in its release plans and will now hit the theaters on April 17 instead of the earlier scheduled date of April 10.
