The Pakistan Cricket Board is ready to investigate the injuries to the star batsmen. Babur Azam And Fakhr Zaman After the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, there were concerns over his fitness.Pakistan selector and former fast bowler Aqib Javed revealed during a press conference that the selection committee had requested the PCB to investigate how the two players got injured and why the matter came to light after the tournament.
Selectors expressed concern over injury updates.
Speaking to fellow selection committee members Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq, Aqib Javed said that the selectors were not aware that Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman were injured during the World Cup.The selectors have now asked the PCB to review the circumstances surrounding the injury and whether appropriate fitness updates were made during the tournament.“Fakhar is also injured, we have also requested an inquiry from the Cricket Board, how can it be that Fakhar is also unfit and we only found out after the World Cup ended?” Aqib said.“When you go to a World Cup, whatever health or injury issues there are, your head coach and physio should keep everyone updated. As selectors, we should be aware of these things.”
Babar Azam ruled out of Bangladesh series
Aqib Javed also explained why Babar Azam was not included in Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing ODI series against Bangladesh national cricket team. According to the selector, the former Pakistan captain is currently suffering from an injury due to which he has not been able to participate in both the Bangladesh series and the domestic National T20 Cup.Babar Azam is suffering from an injury which has kept him out of the squad against Bangladesh. He also wanted to play the National T20 Cup, but his health did not allow it,” explained Aqib.“It doesn’t matter whether you see it or not, but if a player is injured in practice or in a match, it should be known how and when it happens.”Aqib even questioned whether the players would have been declared fit if Pakistan had progressed further in the tournament.The situation today is that Babar Azam is not fit to play and Fakhar Zaman is not fit to play. If we had reached the semi-finals, would he have suddenly been fit? That is the question.”
Young players were given a chance.
Aqib also revealed that the team management had already planned to send a young squad for the Bangladesh series after the World Cup. The selection committee has been experimenting with emerging players in recent bilateral series, similar to the one used during Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe in 2024.“We had already decided before the World Cup that we will not send a full strength squad here,” he said. We wanted to give young players a chance so we have more options.
