Two assistant coaches of the New Zealand national cricket team, Luke Ronchi And Jacob OramNew Zealand Cricket has agreed to take over the coaching duties with Islamabad United in the 2026 edition. Pakistan Super League Starting from March 26.Ronchi will serve as the head coach of the PSL franchise while Oram will work alongside him as an assistant coach. However, as the tournament runs until the end of April, both coaches will miss New Zealand’s upcoming international assignments, including the series against the South African national cricket team and the tour of the Bangladesh national cricket team. New Zealand’s five-match T20I series against South Africa is scheduled to begin on March 15.
New Zealand Cricket says it supports the move as it will help coaches gain valuable experience in international leagues. NZC performance manager Mike Sandell said the opportunity would benefit both individuals and the national set-up.“This is a great opportunity for Luke and Jack to build on their coaching experience and develop their skills outside of the New Zealand cricket environment,” Sandel said. “Just like our players, our coaches are in demand around the world, and we’re confident that Luke and Jack will not only personally benefit from their time in the PSL, but also bring back knowledge and IP that can help the Black Caps and NZC in the future.”During his absence, other coaches from the NZC system will step in. Jonny Bassett-Graham and Graeme Aldridge will assist head coach Rob Walter for the South Africa series, while Brendan Donkers will join the staff for the Bangladesh tour.Sandal added that this arrangement also creates opportunities for other coaches to gain international exposure.“An added bonus of Luke and Jack going to the PSL is that it provides other coaches in the NZC network,” Sandel said. “It will be great to have Jonny, Graeme and Brendan join the Black Caps and I’m sure they will get plenty of time in the environment and experience working with our players and support staff.”
