KTM 390 Duke and KTM 390 Adventure X have become significantly more expensive in India, with KTM revising the prices of its popular 390 range. In the latest update, prices go up to Rs 40,000 depending on the model. The KTM 390 Adventure X has received relatively minor upgrades. It is now priced at Rs 3.43 lakh, ex-showroom, up from its previous price of Rs 3.26 lakh, an increase of Rs 17,000. Since its initial launch at Rs 2.91 lakh, the motorcycle has undergone several modifications. On the other hand, the KTM 390 Duke has seen a steep price hike. The Street Fighter is now priced at Rs 3.39 lakh, ex-showroom, compared to its previous price of Rs 2.99 lakh. This translates to a whopping increase of Rs 40,000 in one fell swoop.
The main reason behind this revision is the GST structure applicable to motorcycles with engine capacity above 350cc. Until now, Bajaj Auto was absorbing a portion of this additional tax burden, effectively shielding customers from sudden price hikes. However, with the latest update, the company has conveyed the full impact of the higher GST to buyers. The move also widens the gap between KTM’s 390 range and its smaller capacity offerings, such as the 250 Duke, where the price difference is now over Rs 1 lakh. Meanwhile, Triumph Motorcycles recently introduced sub-350cc versions of its mid-capacity bikes in India. By downsizing the engines to fall below the 350cc limit, these models benefit from a lower GST rate of 18 per cent instead of 40 per cent. It remains to be seen whether KTM will adopt a similar strategy.
