Last year, when Ranveer mimicked the Daiva (Bhoota Kola) ritual—bound Rishab ShettyIn ‘Kantara Chapter 1’, he drew criticism from sections of the public whose religious sentiments were hurt.Ranveer Singh has told the Karnataka High Court that he is ready to submit an affidavit offering an unconditional apology for his actions. He has also expressed his willingness to visit the Chamundi temple as per the court’s instructions.The statement was made during the hearing of the plea to quash the FIR filed against him in the case. During the proceedings, the High Court orally observed that what the actor did (impersonation) was not correct.For those who don’t know, Ranveer had earlier approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the case registered against him for mimicking a character in Kanta: Chapter 1. The controversy stems from the impersonation of Chamundi daiva, allegedly for hurting religious sentiments.During the hearing, Justice M Nagaprasanna made strong oral observations on the responsibilities that come with stardom. “A superstar is not ‘ooper’ (above) the law. You have no right to hurt people’s feelings. You, being an actor, have influence on people. Being a superstar, you have to be responsible in making statements. You can’t be tongue-in-cheek,” he said.Senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, representing Ranveer, argued that the actor had already admitted his mistake and apologized immediately. He stated that it was unreasonable and that it was made in poor judgment, and added that the order of the magistrate does not have a proper application of mind.In response, Justice Nagaprasanna emphasized the lasting impact of public statements, saying, “It can be forgotten, you can forget and people can forget. The Internet never forgets.”Meanwhile, counsel for the complainant criticized the actor’s actions, describing them as a “shoot and shoot” attempt, followed by negligence and a quick apology.After the scandal, Ranveer issued a public apology on social media. He wrote, “My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. Actor by actor, I know how much it takes to perform that particular scene the way he did, and that has my utmost admiration. I have always respected all the cultures, traditions and beliefs of our country.
