Jane Fonda thinks Barbra Streisand didn't deserve Robert Redford's Oscar tribute:
With a twinkle in her eye, Jane Fonda humorously remarked that Barbra Streisand, who starred in the same film with Robert Redford, to pay tribute at the Oscars. Having worked with Redford on four films, Fonda felt a surge of love and nostalgia for the “incredible man” whose influence reshaped the film industry.

At Sunday’s 98th Academy Awards, Barbra Streisand took the stage as part of the In Memoriam segment of the ceremony honoring Redford, who died on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. However, he thinks Jane Fonda should pay tribute.

At an Oscar night party, Jane Fonda told Entertainment Tonight, “I want to know how come Streisand wasn’t up there doing that for Redford?” Streisand, 83, jokingly added, “I only did one movie with him, I did four! I have to say more.”Laughing, Fonda said she had “always been in love with him. The most beautiful human being and such great values. And he did a lot for cinema, he really changed films, he raised independent films”.

Streisand co-starred with Redford in Sydney Pollack’s 1973 romantic drama The Way We Were. At the event, hosted by Conan O’Brien, he paid a moving tribute to the actor-filmmaker, briefly performing a rare live performance of the hit song of the same name, more than a decade after he last performed it at the Oscars for composer Marvin Hamlisch.“She was a brilliant and subtle actor,” the ‘Funny Girl’ Oscar winner said of Redford onstage. “And we had so much fun playing each other, we never quite knew what the other was going to do in the scene.”

Fonda, on the other hand, participated in the 1960’s ‘The Tall Story’, 1966’s ‘The Chase’, 1967’s ‘Barefoot in the Park’ and 2017’s ‘Our Souls at Night’ with the late Redford. In a statement shared on the day of his friend’s death, the two-time Oscar-winning actor said: “It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob is gone. I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and he was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America that we must continue to fight for.This year’s Academy Awards Memoriam included Hollywood heavyweights such as Rob Reiner, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Catherine O’Hara, Val Kilmer, Robert Duvall and more.
