Now, after their latest collaboration on ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, the 71-year-old director is reflecting on his decades-long friendship and working history with the 76-year-old actor.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the 53rd Saturn Awards on Sunday, Cameron said, “Sigourney and I are really good,” adding that they get along “really as two human beings and colleagues.” Cameron acknowledged that Weaver is “very serious about her craft” and is very serious about her work.“We come together in that kind of pursuit of perfection,” he said. “He’s amazing. He always brings it every time. I mean, you look at his character in the Avatar sequels. He’s playing a 15-year-old at 70, over 70, and he’s perfect,” he continued.

Weaver portrayed a teenage Na’vi character, Kiri, in “Avatar: Fire and Ash” and 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water,” following her role as Dr. Grace Augustine in the 2009 original.In December 2025, James Cameron told the aforementioned outlet that Weaver was around 70-71 years old when he portrayed Kiri. Reflecting on her portrayal of Kiri, she says, “She’s a little bit older now, but she came in as a different person. She came in lighter and more open.
