The Kerala High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the use of the name “Indian Premier League” by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.BCCI). Self-proclaimed social activist Ashiq Kruth, the petitioner, had argued that the BCCI’s T20 League was using the title illegally.A division bench comprising Chief Justice Soman Sen and Justice Shyam Kumar V.M. noted that the petitioner had recently come to know that IPL Despite its long existence, it was not an official national cricket tournament. “We find no merit in the substance of the said contention and, therefore, we do not think it would be appropriate to maintain this writ petition as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL),” the judges said.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has officially cleared the way for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to host the IPL 2026 matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. It ends months of uncertainty after RCB’s stampede after winning its first title.The 19th edition of the IPL is scheduled to begin on March 28, with defending champions RCB opening the tournament against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Chinnaswamy Stadium as per the official schedule.
