NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad returned to winning ways with a dominant 65-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, thanks in large part to Heinrich KlassenCalm and experienced knocking. While Blessings of Mudarbani Sparks with four wickets for KKR, Klaasen’s steady 52 helped SRH post a robust 226/8 after coming in to bat. In reply, KKR never really got going and were bundled out for 161 in just 16 overs, suffering yet another defeat.
SRH make big total despite stumbling.
SRH got off to a flying start as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma attacked from the start and put on a blistering 82-run stand. Just when it looks like a huge total is on the cards, KKR mount a comeback through Mazarbani, who removes key batsmen and briefly slows things down. At one stage, SRH lost wickets at a rapid rate and the innings looked shaky. That’s when Klassen steps in and stabilizes things. He plays smart cricket, spins strikes and keeps the scoreboard ticking even when the boundaries dry up. Along with Nitish Kumar Reddy, they form a vital partnership that keeps SRH on track for big totals. The pair added crucial runs in the middle overs, ensuring that the early momentum was not lost and helping SRH reach a competitive score.
KKR crumbled under the pressure.
Chasing 227, KKR got off to a flying start with a brisk 28 from Finn Allen, but things fell apart soon after his dismissal. A lack of coordination was visible as run-outs and poor shot selection hurt them badly. Cameron Green is involved in a mix-up and gets run out cheaply, and even Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who plays a brilliant innings of 52 runs, gets run out after another blunder. The innings never settles as wickets keep falling regularly. Ranko Singh tries to fight back with 35, but once he is gone, the chase is effectively over. The SRH bowlers, led by Jaydev Anadakt, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ishan Malinga, kept things tight and finished the job comfortably, sealing a comprehensive win.
