New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has crossed a major milestone in the QS World University Rankings Subject 2026. Five of the institute’s engineering and technology subjects have made it into the world’s top 50, marking a significant improvement over last year’s results. IIT Delhi India holds the top spot in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for the Engineering and Technology category, ranking 36th globally.According to the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, which was announced on 25 March 2026, IIT Delhi’s electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, chemical engineering, and civil engineering subjects have entered the world’s top 50, showing a significant improvement over the previous year, when it ranked only 50 in engineering subjects. Prof. Anurag Rathore, Head of Chemical Engineering said, “With industry funding of Rs 40+ crore in the last 5 years, 75% increase in granted patents, and 50% increase in peer-reviewed publications, the Chemical Engineering Department has consistently ranked as one of the most prestigious departments in the country.““We have completely revamped the courses to incorporate the latest technologies, such as construction automation and robotics, unmanned aerial vehicle (UVA)/drone technology, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and geomatics,” said Prof Vasant Matsagar, Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering.Broader STEM achievementsApart from these top 50 subjects, twelve IIT Delhi subjects under Engineering and Technology, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Management are now in the top 100. These are Data Science and AI (51-100), Minerals and Mining (51-100), Environmental Sciences (78), Materials and Management Science (78), Materials Sciences (78), Materials Sciences (76). and Statistics and Operational Research (51–100).IIT Delhi is now in the top 50 globally for engineering and technology, and is in the top 100 globally for natural sciences (ranked 91) and social sciences and management (ranked 84).
