New Delhi: HS Prannoy has pulled out of the Orleans Masters Super 300 badminton tournament after suffering a shoulder injury during the Swiss Open in Basel last week. The veteran Indian shuttler was originally scheduled to face Chinese Taipei’s top seed Chu Tien Chen in the opening round.Prannoy first felt the discomfort during her trip to the Swiss Open and decided to withdraw from her match against Koki Watanabe to avoid aggravating the injury. After returning, scans revealed a minor tear in his shoulder.
“Shoulder pain developed after traveling to the Swiss Open. We didn’t know the reason then, so I decided to back out and fly back,” Prannoy told PTI.“After the scan it showed a slight tear. It’s minor and hopefully I’ll be fine soon,” he added. The Indian star now aims to recover in time for the upcoming Asian Championships in Ningbo, China.
Young Indian players are leading the challenge.
With Prannoy out, the youngsters will lead India’s campaign in the tournament. Rising star Ayush Shetty, seeded eighth and currently world No. 25, will be one of the main contenders after winning the US Open Super 300 last year. He begins his campaign against Li Chia Hao.Former world no Kidambi Srikanth Also in action against Denmark’s Magnus Johansson. Other Indian players in the men’s singles include Thron Manipalli, who recently reached the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open, and Kiran George, who shocked former world champion Loh Ken Yew in Basel.
Focus on women’s and doubles events.
In the women’s singles, young talent Tanvi Sharma, who won a silver medal at the BWF World Junior Championships, will take on Supanida Kithong. Malvika Binsud is also back after recovering from a long knee injury and will take on Sung Shu Yun.India will also participate in the doubles event. Pairs like Hariharan Amsakaronen and MR Arjun in the men’s doubles, and Dhruv Kapila with Tanisha Christo in the mixed doubles, will look to make strong runs and keep India’s hopes alive in the tournament.
