Mandela said in his video that he had been “debating for 48 hours” whether to make the message or not. He continues, “and I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing, philosophically. I don’t believe… that someone who’s a comedian should apologize for a joke. It’s a joke. It’s just like a joke, and it’s not meant to be offensive… In all my years, 50 years in the business, I’ve never apologized publicly. [a joke]. It’s difficult for me,” he continued.
