Halle Bailey explains how she dealt with racist remarks
Speaking to The Independent recently, Bailey recalled what it was like to read the comments directed at her after the ‘Little Mermaid’ casting was announced. He shared that at the time, many people directed hatred at him and often made racist and derogatory remarks at him.
She shared that going through all this taught her to listen to herself and the “good inner voices”. He also said, “I learned to block out the noise.”
Halle Bailey has revealed how it felt to be at the center of the “Little Mermaid” controversy.
“Honestly, it was liberating to be in the middle of this conversation where there were so many different opinions coming in, and they were against each other. I felt like I was watching myself inside a cup, seeing how people reacted,” the star admitted. He explained that watching conversations about such a thing online was a completely different experience.Halle Bailey is not the only one who has encountered such comments. Announced as the new Severus Snape in the ‘Harry Potter’ series, actor Paapa Essiedu has also opened up about receiving racist comments along with death threats for his new role. Speaking to The Times, he said, “It’s really important. The reality is that if I look at Instagram, I’m going to see someone saying, ‘I’m going to come to your house and kill you.’‘ So while I’m pretty sure I’m not going to die… That could age badly! But, yes, while I hope he’s okay, no one should have to face this for doing their job.”
